Washington, DC — Today, Indivisible, released the following statement following the reelection of US Senator Ed Markey in the Massachusetts Democratic Primary.
“We are proud to have supported Ed Markey throughout this hard-fought primary fight for Massachusetts Senator. A strong, unabashed, fierce progressive has retained his seat and will be able to continue the fight for priorities like the Green New Deal, Medicare for All, and a pandemic response that prioritizes the workers and families of Massachusetts,” said Lucy Solomon, IE Political Director. “With this distraction behind him, Senator Markey can look toward the general election with a platform we know the people of Massachusetts already support and can help lead new progressive voices in Congress in the fight for equality, fairness, and competence in our government.”
Indivisible endorsed Ed Markey recently against a perplexingchallenge from Rep. Joe Kennnedy III, of the Massachusetts political dynasty. While Kennedy struggled to justify his reasoning for the run, Sen. Markey continued to reiterate his progressive credentials like being the lead sponsor of the Green New Deal in the Senate and his working class background.
Indivisible joined a strong coalition of progressive groups like MoveOn, Our Revolution, the Working Families Party, and Sunrise Movement, and leading progressive figures like Elizabeth Warren and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, in endorsing Sen. Markey’s reelection campaign. Indivisible has been committed to ensuring Ed Markey returned to the Senate, sending nearly 68,000 mailers across MA, nearly half a million texts, and hosting a phone banking day of action to get out the vote in the final weeks of the race.
