Washington, D.C. — Today, Andrew O’Neill, Indivisible’s Legislative Director, released the following statement in response to the Supreme Court’s decision in the Fischer v. United States case:
“Instead of safeguarding our peaceful transition of power, the ruling in Fischer v. United States will make it even more difficult to hold the hundreds of January 6 insurrectionists accountable for the deadly attack on our democracy.
“It’s no surprise that Clarence Thomas and Samuel Alito were in the majority in this case: both justices along with their wives have shown support for the insurrection and Trump’s Big Lie.
“Next, they’ll be ruling on Trump v. United States. And it's clear that the court is stacked with MAGA justices who are using their seats on the bench to do political favors for Trump and MAGA extremists.
“On January 6, 2021, Trump and his MAGA supporters threw our democracy into crisis. We need a court that will hold them accountable and protect our democracy and our freedoms. Instead we have justices like Thomas and Alito on the bench, empowering Trump to continue to spew his dangerous lies.”
