Washington, D.C. — Indivisible’s national advocacy director Mary Small released the following response to the new reconciliation bill under discussion on Capitol Hill:
“This is a good bill. It’s full of good, popular things.
“Lowering prescription drug costs. Lowering health insurance premiums. Lowering energy bills. Investing in climate action. Making the ultra-wealthy and big corporations pay their fair share in taxes. These are core Democratic priorities, and we’re finally at a moment where we can pass them in the Senate, pass them in the House, send it to Joe Biden and sign them into law.
“This bill shows Democrats are keeping up the fight. While Mitch McConnell continues to obstruct, Democrats are delivering on promises they made to the American people. This bill may not be everything we wanted, but it’s a badly needed response to a crisis of inaction that too often has stopped progress in its tracks.
“Democrats are still going to have to contend with an onslaught of urgent lobbying from Pharma, the financial sector and other industries that benefit from inaction on Capitol Hill and want the Trump-era status quo undisturbed. Those industries are going to try to bribe some moderates into sabotaging the deal with last minute objections. It needs to be crystal clear: any Democrat refusing to pass this bill would be committing an outright betrayal of their party and their constituents.
“We look forward to celebrating this significant victory for our families and our communities when President Biden signs the bill into law.”
