Washington, DC — Today, Indivisible’s co-executive directors Leah Greenberg and Ezra Levin issued the following statement:
"We continue to hold Jacob Blake, his friends, family, and community in our hearts. Our hearts continue to break for Jacob Blake’s children, who witnessed their father getting shot seven times by police.
"We want to express our solidarity with protesters marching for justice in Kenosha and across the country, and our shock and rage at the murder of two protesters last night. We join Indivisible groups in Wisconsin in demanding accountability and leadership from their public officials. We call for the swift arrest and indictment of the officers involved in this tragedy. We acknowledge and honor the leadership of Black organizers who've fought this fight for so long. As this moment of national reckoning continues, we join them in keeping our focus on those most harmed by our violent, unaccountable systems.
"An America where Black people can be murdered with impunity is not one we accept. Every day, we will continue to fight to demand justice, to defund police departments, to get engaged and stay engaged in the lifetime work of fighting white supremacy where it shows up in our institutions and in our own lives."
Chuck Self, group leader with Forward Fox Valley (WI-08,) issued the following statement:
"Each of us deserves to live and move in our communities with dignity and safety. The shooting of Jacob Blake by Kenosha Police on Sunday, the subsequent protests calling for racial justice and accountability, and most recently the murder of two protesters, are glaring examples of the unrest that exists in this country and the disregard for Black and brown human life.
"We demand police accountability and justice for those killed last night and we dedicate ourselves to working to create a world where our communities here in the Fox Valley and across the state of Wisconsin can be places where all are protected and valued, no exceptions.
"We call on Mayor John Antaramian, District Attorney Michael D. Graveley, and Attorney General Josh Kaul to immediately fire and arrest the officer who shot Jacob 'Jake' Blake in the back seven times. This officer attempted to murder a father in front of his children, and are clearly unfit to hold their positions as police officers."

The Indivisible Project drives campaigns for bold progressive policies, lobbies Congress, and equips activists with tools to build lasting progressive power, everywhere. Together, we fight to defeat the rightwing takeover of American government and build an inclusive democracy.
