Washington, D.C. — In response to House Leadership trying to force a vote on the inadequate Bipartisan Infrastructure Framework (BIF) on Thursday Oct. 28th, the Congressional Progressive Caucus members held strong once again in their decision to withhold their votes on the BIF until full details of the Build Back Better package were released and agreed upon by the obstructionist in the Senate.
Mary Small, National Advocacy Director for Indivisible issued the following statement:
“House Progressives have once again demonstrated what effective collective power can do if we stay united in our fight for transformative policies for the American people.
“They have been clear from the start that any true recovery must deliver on long standing Democratic priorities and the provisions within the BIF simply are not the robust action we need to address the multiple overlapping crises families are facing today.
“Though the ‘framework’ released today by President Biden was a good step forward in the right direction towards passing an inclusive recovery, trying to force this vote without even a deal in place that has agreement from all 50 Senators is absurd and we applaud Progressives for successfully holding the line for the second time.
“Just as important, today showed that the legislators standing in the way of families getting the critically needed relief that is in the full Build Back Better agenda—including lower prescription drug prices, paid family leave, and robust investments to save our planet from climate change—are conservative Democrats like Senators Manchin and Sinema. Progressives are saving it from being killed.”
