Like many of us, Raquel Terán got her start with a clipboard and a pen, registering folks to vote at a "Today We March, Tomorrow We Vote" immigrant rights event. She has been part of a decades-long fight to organize Arizona away from anti-immigrant extremists like Russell Pearce and Joe Arpaio, and continues to organize against current day Republican efforts to instill fear and division among Arizonans. From leading the charge to mentoring the next generation, Raquel has grown through all the different iterations of an organizer, building deep community ties and a loyal network of support as she’s gone.
It was with the backing of that deep organizing network that Raquel decided, in 2018, to change her megaphone out for a microphone, making the bold leap to run for office. Her first elected position was representing Legislative District 30 in the Arizona Legislature. As a state lawmaker, Raquel was able to expand access to healthcare, raise Arizona’s minimum wage, provide paid sick leave to Arizona’s working families, fight attacks on reproductive rights, and so much more.
And Raquel didn’t stop at the legislature! In 2021, while serving as the Arizona Democratic Party Chair, Raquel led the charge to hold Kyrsten Sinema accountable for her broken campaign promises and her disappointing inaction on progressive priorities in the Senate. She then went on to organize a big tent coalition of Arizonans to reject MAGA extremists like Kari Lake, Blake Masters, and Mark Finchem, electing powerhouse Democrats to key statewide offices for the first time in decades.
Voices like Raquel’s are desperately needed in Congress if we hope to achieve our vision of a true democracy that is by and for the people. Raquel is the best candidate to represent the 3rd District in Congress.
