Born into a proud union family in northern New Mexico and raised in Albuquerque, Melanie is intimately aware of the critical issues facing New Mexico’s 1st District, and the urgency for real solutions to help working families. Whether it’s developing 21st century solutions to tackle climate change, securing millions of dollars to invest in community funded projects, or passing historic legislation, it’s clear Rep. Melanie Stansbury has what it takes to show up for her district’s communities.
In her first term in Congress, Melanie has established herself as a formidable climate champion. She brings her deep understanding of water resource management and energy conservation to Congress, serving on the Natural Resources Committee and the Committee on Science, Space, and Technology. She fights every day to address land and water issues, food insecurity, crumbling energy infrastructure, and the climate crisis. Melanie has also been vocal on key progressive priorities like protecting abortion access, canceling student debt, raising the federal minimum wage, strengthening protections for workers, and passing Medicare for All.
