In a matter of days, Trump’s administration has already attempted an unprecedented seizure of power:
- The Office of Management and Budget (OMB) issued a memo cutting all federal funds for child nutrition, healthcare for tens of millions, domestic violence shelters, veterans’ programs, and more. It was an unambiguous act of economic terrorism.
- Massive public backlash forced Trump into retreat within 72 hours. A federal judge issued an injunction, and Trump backed off—for now.
- Reports broke that Elon Musk, an unelected billionaire, was demanding access to the Treasury Payments system.
- We learned that Treasury Secretary Bessent had given Musk’s team full access to a system that moves trillions of dollars.
What the hell is happening?
We do not know what Musk intends to do. Will he cut off payments to safety-net programs? Will he siphon off confidential financial data for himself? The only thing we do know is that there is zero oversight and no reason to trust him. Nobody elected Elon.
At the same time, Project 2025 architect Russell Vought is up for confirmation as the head of OMB. If confirmed, he will consolidate total control over the federal budget, turning Trump’s slash-and-burn memo into reality.
What we need right now is an unprecedented show of constituent power to demand that Democrats in Congress fight back and hold Republicans accountable for their complicity to extract a political cost.
