Washington, DC—Today, Elizabeth Beavers, associate policy director of the Indivisible Project, issued the following statement on the Supreme Court’s ruling in Trump v. Hawai’i:
“The Roberts Court just earned itself a place in the history books. Trump v. Hawai’i is going to be remembered alongside the most shameful rulings in the court’s history. From our airports, to our borders, to our cities, Trump has used cruelty towards families as a tool to enforce its white supremacist agenda. The Supreme Court is now complicit in that cruelty. This is a direct result of congressional Republicans’ choice to steal a Supreme Court seat and enable Trump’s bigotry.”
“To the Muslim community, and to all who’ve been targeted by this administration’s hate: Today, more than ever, we want you to know that we are in this fight with you. Many Indivisible groups across the country first began as friends and neighbors gathering in response to this ban. The crueler this administration gets, the harder we will fight. We are joining you with one voice to reject this ruling, reject racism, and defeat the bigotry of the Trump agenda.”
“The next step in this work will be to elect a Congress that will actually stand up against Trump’s agenda and take action to protect those under attack by this administration’s racist policies.”
