Washington, DC — Today, Mary Small, Legislative Director for the Indivisible Project, issued the following statement on passage of the continuing resolution (CR), which funds the government until December 20th:
“Over the past few months, our movement has stridently supported immigrant communities and stood strong against the abuses of the Trump administration’s cruel immigration agenda. Indivisible groups around the country organized nearly 200 rallies and protests and made over 8000 calls and in September, Congress refused to give ICE and CBP the special funding they asked for as a part of the first CR.
“Recently, that network activated again to ensure Congress held strong and passed a funding bill that included no additional funding for these agencies to continue their campaign of terrorizing immigrant families and their communities. We know that work helped ensure that the bill Trump signed today rejected those funding increases entirely.
“As Congress continues its work to negotiate full-year funding bills, Indivisible groups will continue to push for decreases in funding for the agencies carrying out Trump’s agenda of hate and exclusion, and for the critical guardrails to prevent the huge money grabs from other accounts that have become a democracy-breaking hallmark of this Administration.”
