Washington, DC —Today, Indivisible’s Co-Founders and Co-Executive Directors issued the following statements:
“Over a year ago, Indivisibles helped lead the charge to impeach and remove Donald Trump from office, knowing full well that he was an ongoing, existential threat to our democracy and its institutions. Had Republicans taken that threat seriously, we would not be here today. It’s possible and indeed likely that 375,000 Americans might still be alive, including six that were lost as a result of last week’s deadly attempted coup. Indivisible has always maintained that Trump was and is grossly unfit for office. This second effort to impeach and remove him has our full-throated endorsement. Now that Mitch McConnell and a few other Republicans finally agree, we urge him to immediately bring Senators back to take up the impeachment articles and vote swiftly to convict Donald Trump and permanently disqualify him from holding federal office. Every day that Trump remains in office is another day that he encourages white supremacy and right-wing extremism, foments violence and threatens our democracy. And even if Trump’s term expires, his seditious and treasonous actions cannot be overlooked; the Senate must hold his impeachment trial and vote to convict and disqualify him even if they do so after January 20,” said Ezra Levin, Co-Founder and Co-Executive Director of Indivisible.
“Last Wednesday, a mob of violent white supremacists stormed the Capitol Building, destroyed federal property, threatened the lives of countless Congressional staff and lawmakers, including three in the Presidential line of succession, and caused the death of six individuals. This deadly attempted overthrow of a duly elected government was directly, openly incited by Donald Trump. There is nothing to debate here. Donald Trump is an existential threat to our country. He has directly attacked our democracy and must be removed from office immediately. The attack of 1/6/2021 is just another chapter in an excruciatingly long novel titled ‘Why Trump is Unfit for Public Office.’ The Senate should return immediately to convict and remove him. As we learned on 1/6/2021, lives literally depend on it,” said Leah Greenberg, Co-Founder and Co-Executive Director of Indivisible.
