Washington, DC — Today, Leah Greencberg, Co-Executive Director of the Indivisible Project, issued the following statement:
“Our hearts are heavy this morning at the news of the shootings in Atlanta last night, an attack that's part of a terrifying broader rise in anti-Asian hate and violence over the past year. White supremacy and misogyny kill, and we know that the pain and terror that this act will cause is immense.
“We are sending love and solidarity to everyone who is suffering today in the face of this horrific act of racist violence. Racism towards Asians and the AAPI community has been stoked at the highest levels of government over the past year, a convenient distraction from a disastrous response to COVID from a hateful administration. But their words have taken root because they play into a history of anti-Asian hate that goes back for centuries, often under-recognized, often deepened by toxic strains of sexism, classism, and xenophobia.
"We cannot, and will not, let the AAPI community suffer this wave of hate alone. We commit to the collective fight against racism and hate.
“We're holding the victims of last night's attacks, the AAPI members of our team and our movement, and everyone who's suffering, angry, or in fear and pain today in our hearts.“

ABOUT THE INDIVISIBLE PROJECT
The Indivisible Project (501c4) is a social movement non-profit driven by a vision of a real democracy - of, by, and for the people. Indivisible began in 2016 as a viral guide to resisting Trump’s agenda. Today, the Indivisible movement is a network of thousands of local groups and millions of activists across every state. The Indivisible Project drives campaigns for bold progressive policies, lobbies Congress, and equips activists with tools to build lasting progressive power, everywhere. Together, we fight to defeat the rightwing takeover of American government and build an inclusive democracy.
