Washington, DC — Indivisible celebrated another victory in the state of Georgia. Lucy Solomon, IE Political Director of Indivisible released the following statement:
“Congratulations to Indivisible groups and Georgians who helped make history tonight with the election of Senators-elect Jon Ossoff and Raphael Warnock. There is no better indication of the seismic change happening across the country, but especially in the South, than what we just saw in the Peach State.
“Republicans in Georgia have gone to great lengths to prevent Georgians from voting and sow distrust in our electoral process. But in spite of these efforts from the Republican incumbents and the outgoing President, voters across Georgia shattered turnout records in the clearest rebuke of Republican leadership seen this cycle. Indivisible is honored to stand alongside our allies in-state and across the nation to celebrate the election of Jon Ossoff and Raphael Warnock after a long and hard-fought election cycle.
“Georgia Indivisible groups helped make this political moment possible through their relentless advocacy and their belief in a more inclusive future for Georgia. These groups have been consistent in speaking out against Perdue and Loeffler, who prioritized their own profit over the health and safety of Georgians in the face of a devastating pandemic. Their work helped ensure this race went into a runoff.
“From Gwinnett to DeKalb to Jefferson, from the suburbs of Atlanta to the rural southeast, Indivisible has fought to place Georgians first in this race. This victory is the result of trusting the leadership of in-state organizers, particularly Black and brown leaders and rural voices who had the strategic wisdom to win. We’re honored to have worked closely with groups like Mijente, Color of Change, Poder Latinx, Black Voters Matter, and many others to reach voters in every corner of the state. Together, we delivered the Senate majority and defeated Mitch McConnell. Georgians rejected a Senate that has failed to fight for working people, failed to protect Americans from the worst public health emergency in history, and has failed to protect our democracy from existential threats--most notably from our soon-to-be former President. Thank you, Georgia.”
