WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Indivisible’s co-executive director and co-founder Ezra Levin issued the following statement on President Barack Obama’s speech at the 2024 Democratic National Convention:
“President Obama’s speech in Chicago, where he gave his famous speech at the 2008 DNC, feels like a welcomed deja vu. In 2008, a young soon-to-be-President Obama spoke of hope, change, and the power of collective movements to change the status quo. For so many of us, ‘hope’ was not just a strategic campaign slogan – it’s something we all felt deeply then, and what we’re all feeling now.
“Just as President Obama did 16 years ago, Vice President Harris isn’t just fighting against the forces that seek to divide us—she’s fighting for a vision of America where freedom and opportunity are more than just words. Her campaign is powered by the very people who brought that message of hope to the White House in 2008. The grassroots power, energy and excitement among the base that fueled Obama’s historic victory are now at the heart of Harris’s campaign.
“This speech is a powerful reminder that the work we started isn’t done. It’s a recognition of the continuing fight for personal freedoms, economic prosperity, and democracy. Since 2008, hope has continued to unite us, and it will help us win in November.”
