Washington, DC — In response to Sen. John Kennedy (R-LA)’s remarks that he wants “a nominee who knows the difference between the Constitution and a J. Crew catalogue,” as well as Sen. Josh Hawley’s (R-MO) comments that President Biden should “expect a major battle” if he nominates “a woke activist” to the Supreme Court, Sen. Ted Cruz’s (R-TX) remarks that it’s “offensive” for the president to nominate a Black woman to the bench, and Sen. Roger Wicker’s (R-MS) statement that the as-yet-unnamed nominee is a “beneficiary” of affirmative action, and in anticipation of a flood of inevitable racist comments still to come about President Biden’s nominee to the Supreme Court, Indivisible’s Director of Democracy Policy Meagan Hatcher-Mays issued the following statement:
“President Biden’s nominee hasn’t even been announced yet and Republicans are already tripping over themselves to say the most racist thing they can think of about her, her qualifications, and her ideology. Republicans in the Senate only know how to do two things: be racist and lie.
“Democrats shouldn't stand for these obvious, classless attacks on a future Supreme Court justice. Whoever the nominee is, she should be considered and confirmed swiftly, and Senate Republicans should move just as quickly to shut up.”

ABOUT THE INDIVISIBLE PROJECT
The Indivisible Project (501c4) is a social movement non-profit driven by a vision of a real democracy - of, by, and for the people. Indivisible began in 2016 as a viral guide to resisting Trump’s agenda. Today, the Indivisible movement is a network of thousands of local groups and millions of activists across every state. The Indivisible Project drives campaigns for bold progressive policies, lobbies Congress, and equips activists with tools to build lasting progressive power, everywhere. Together, we fight to defeat the rightwing takeover of American government and build an inclusive democracy.
