Washington, DC — The Indivisible Project’s Policy Director Angel Padilla released the following statement after House Democrats introduced the Dream and Promise Act of 2019:
“House Democrats’ introduction of the Dream and Promise Act today (H.R. 6) makes it clear that securing justice for immigrants is a top priority for Democrats. By killing the DACA program, as well as Temporary Protected Status and Deferred Enforced Departure protections, Trump has held hundreds of thousands of immigrants hostage in an effort to advance his hateful agenda. But voters made it clear in November when they delivered the House to Democrats — a direct repudiation of Trump’s anti-immigrant agenda — that they support Dreamers and immigrant families.
“The Dream and Promise Act would provide permanent relief and a path to citizenship for the millions of immigrants Trump has targeted. It is an important step toward securing justice for all of the immigrant families who live and work in our communities. We recognize that the road ahead is long, but we won’t rest until we have secured permanent protections for all immigrant families, starting with passage of this bill in the House.”
