Indivisible on Senator Durbin Issuing a Subpoena for Leonard Leo: ‘Half-baked attempt at doing his job.’
Washington, D.C. — Today, Ezra Levin, Indivisible’s Co-Founder and Co-Executive Director, released the following statement on Senator and Judiciary Chair Durbin’s decision to issue a congressional subpoena Leonard Leo:
“Senator Durbin’s decision to issue subpoenas for Leonard Leo is a long overdue first step towards ensuring accountability within the Supreme Court, but it’s far from enough. The entire country has been waiting too long for Durbin to take action, and subpoenaing Leonard Leo without simultaneously subpoenaing Harlan Crow is a half-baked attempt at doing his job as Judiciary Chair.
“Since last May, Indivisibles have been taking coordinated actions to pressure Durbin to do everything in his power to address corruption in the Court by driving calls, sending emails, meeting with Durbin and his staff, and coordinating sign-on letters pressing for urgency. We applaud him for listening to their calls, but this is only the beginning.
“Democrats cannot let this corrupt and compromised Supreme Court continue to have a strong hold on our fundamental rights without any form of accountability. Durbin cannot ignore the overwhelming calls and pressure from his own base. He must continue to exercise his authority as the Senate Judiciary Chair by subpoenaing Harlan Crow, holding the justices and their accomplices accountable, and unrigging a court that was packed by Trump and his MAGA supporters.”
