Leah Greenberg, Co-Executive Director of Indivisible issued the following statement:
“Today, finally, after wasting time and delaying recovery for the American people, Republicans will vote to move forward with the Bipartisan Infrastructure Framework (BIF). Let us be clear, this bill does not come close to providing the recovery that families desperately need. In fact, it relies on harmful policies like privatization to pay for the package, instead of making the wealthy and corporations pay their fair share in taxes. To provide real recovery, Senate Democrats must now turn their attention to passing a progressive budget resolution that includes expanded healthcare, universal child care, a pathway to citizenship, and massive investments in affordable housing, climate, and the care economy. Indivisible supports progressives in the House, as well as Speaker Pelosi, who have made it clear that the House will not take up this inadequate bipartisan package until a robust and inclusive recovery package has also passed in the Senate.
“We expect every Senate Democrat to immediately work to pass a bold budget resolution before they leave for August recess. Refusal to do so means robbing the American people of a true and inclusive recovery. Recess can wait. Recovery cannot.”
