Our Bodily Autonomy Should Not Depend On What State We Live In
In June 2022, the six right-wing justices on the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade and struck down our constitutional right to abortion care.
Since then, Republican-led state legislatures across the country have instituted egregious abortion bans, leaving millions of people unable to make their own reproductive health decisions or access necessary medical care.
And we know that abortion bans hurt Black, brown, and low-income people the most – which is just par for the course for MAGA Republicans.
But MAGA cruelty knows no limits and these anti-abortion lawmakers have taken these bans to new, extreme levels. Some states have criminalized traveling out-of-state to seek legal abortion care, and go so far as to criminalize providers who offer care to these out-of-state patients. And we’ve already seen states allow police to use private reproductive health data entered online to go after people suspected of receiving abortion care.
Everyone, everywhere should have the right to seek reproductive health care – and have meaningful access to that care. We need to fight back against these abortion bans and pass federal legislation to protect reproductive freedom for all.
Our Reproductive Freedom Agenda
It’s crucial that Democrats fight for reproductive freedom, even while Republicans have the majority in the House. We know that abortion is a winning issue at the polls, and Members of Congress who are strong champions for abortion rights are strong candidates for 2024. Then, when Democrats regain the House, we’ve already built the support needed to pass these bills and protect our rights!
We need all Democrats to continue to fight for our reproductive rights and sign onto the bills in Indivisible’s Reproductive Freedom Agenda, which includes:
-
H.R. 782 – Ensuring Women’s Right to Reproductive Freedom Act
-
H.R. 3420 – My Body, My Data Act of 2023
-
H.R. 4303 – Abortion Justice Act
