Washington, DC — Today, the Senate voted to end President Trump’s emergency declaration to shift military funds towards expanding border wall construction on the U.S.-Mexico border. The resolution passed by a 54-41 vote.
In response, Indivisible legislative director Mary Small issued the following statement:
“Under the cover of his fake national emergency, the Trump administration has raided billions from other government accounts in a desperate attempt to fulfill his campaign promise to build a border wall. Today, 11 Republicans joined all Democratic Senators in voting to revoke the emergency declaration.
“This vote wasn't just a question of righting the past; as the administration publicly talks about stealing billions more next year, it has massive implications for the future too. As the Trump administration continues to erode Congress' constitutionally-granted ‘power of the purse’ to pursue his anti-immigrant agenda, what's really shocking is that every single Senator didn't vote in favor of ending the national emergency.
