Washington, DC — In July, Indivisible announced the launch of an ambitious, multi-pronged electoral program powered by their nationwide grassroots network to make 20 million voter contact attempts to defeat Trump, save SCOTUS, flip the Senate, and hold the House in November. Today, with twenty days still to go, Indivisible has surpassed their original goal and made over 20 million voter contact attempts to flip the Senate, defeat Donald Trump, and hold the House in November.
These goals represent a quadrupling of Indivisible’s 2018 direct voter contact impact, which has been credited as critical to building the 2018 Blue Wave. Although Indivisible has already surpassed these ambitious goals, their plan is to further ramp up electoral work between now and the election.
Meagan Hatcher-Mays, Director of Democracy Policy for Indivisible, released the following statement:
“If Republicans thought they could jam through Amy Coney Barrett's nomination twenty days before the presidential election and avoid the consequences, they were sorely mistaken. The American people are paying attention, they are horrified, but they are not sitting idly by.
As these sham hearings conclude, Indivisible is proud to announce that we hit our goal for total voter contacts nearly three weeks early -- 20 million voter contact attempts, four times what we drove ahead of the Blue Wave in 2018.
“To any Republican considering voting to confirm Amy Coney Barret and going along with this disgusting power grab: we're watching.
“There has not been a Supreme Court confirmation process this insulting to our democracy since Senate Republicans refused to meet with Merrick Garland in 2016. I would say that this process was shameful, but it's clear that Donald Trump, Mitch McConnell, and Lindsey Graham are incapable of shame. It doesn't help that the nominee, Amy Coney Barrett, is an extremist who represents an existential threat to our healthcare, to bodily autonomy, and civil rights, and to our planet itself.”
Indivisible’s voter contact work has been targeted at 18 priority states through a mix of continuous phonebanking and textbanking every week. This nationally-led electoral program comes on top of the incalculable ways Indivisible activists are electing progressives by directly volunteering for campaigns.
