Major progressive organizations are joining Senate Democrats today demanding Majority Leader Mitch McConnell bring the HEROES Act up for debate as this week marked the one-month anniversary of the House of Representatives passing the legislation.
The winner of the primary will go on to face Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell in the general election, a top priority in this cycle’s battle for control of the Senate.
Indivisible is proud to add these nine candidates to our list of endorsements. This round of candidates shows us that there is enthusiasm in every part of the country for progressive leaders. Our candidates come from the Southwest, the Midwest, the South and the Northeast. They represent rural areas and some of the country’s biggest cities; blue states and red states. But what they all have in common is the backing of strong grassroots activists who are committed to working hard to improve their districts and states. We are motivated to do everything we can to ensure they win in November and we look forward to working with them once they are elected to office.
As a coalition committed to the divestment from agencies that tear apart families and terrorize our communities, we are in solidarity with Black communities and allies demanding justice in calling for the defunding of this country’s militarized police forces.
Many white organizers feel awkward or uncertain about how to show up to support Black and brown communities under attack. And yet we all must show up. Even though it’s so much easier to stay quiet, well-intentioned silence is one of the many reasons our country has not moved forward.
Indivisibles know that recruitment is a key component of building local power, but it is not always easy to meet and identify new potential activists or reactivate your existing list. It’s hard, intentional work (like anything that matters).
The president is a unhinged white supremacist who has gleefully threatened protestors with death all while hiding in his bunker in the White House. Trump has done nothing to quell the brutal tactics that police have deployed against protestors exercising their First Amendment rights because he has absolutely no problem with state-sanctioned violence aimed at Black and brown people. He enjoys it because he’s a racist who pretends at being a tough guy.
