It is clear what should happen now: we should mourn, we should honor her legacy, and we should allow the people to decide who will nominate her replacement. With voting already underway in states across the country, it would be a grave, irresponsible power grab for the current President or Congress move before the people are heard. The next President must be the one to nominate the next Supreme Court Justice. As Justice Ginsburg herself said, ‘My most fervent wish is that I will not be replaced until a new president is installed.’ We must honor that wish.
